Want to Learn to Sail?
Sailing Singles leases a Flying Scot 19-foot sailboat so members who want to learn how to sail can.
Classes are held three nights a week—Monday, Tuesday and Thursday—from North Star Sail Club on South River Road in Harrison Township, where the Flying Scot is docked. (Monday night students sail each Monday, Tuesday students each Tuesday, etc.) Start time is 6:00 PM and the boat returns by dusk from the sail on Lake St. Clair.
Students and instructors often gather at North Star Sail Club or a nearby restaurant for refreshments after class, which adds to the fun and comraderie.
Instructors are club members who volunteer their time and happily share their sailing knowledge.
Sailing Singles is a member of the Interclub Flying Scot Committee. The IFSC plans races during the summer between member clubs. Members of IFSC are Detroit Yacht Club, Detroit Boat Club, Edison Boat Club, Crescent Sail Yacht Club and Sailing Singles.
